Spring 2008
What a wonderful year Little Lucy is having! She runs after the birds...plays with the turtles, and generally is the life of every party! Lucy is the kind of companion dog we all want in a dog. She LOVES people, and has to hang around us all the time. One thing we have learned is the safety of having a car seat for her. Friends of our have a dog who didn't have one, and he hurt his neck when they slammed on the brakes.A car seat for your dog is every bit as important as a car seart for yuor child, and since most of us treat out dogs like children, don't they deserve the best?
Lucy is looking forward to moving to Arizona, where we will have a more active outdoor life. As of this writing, it is still wet and gloomy here is Oregon, and we are looking forward to getting away from this weather so all of us can have a more active life!
Winter 2007
Lucy was a witch this year for Halloween. She greeted all of the nasty little children who came to our door begging for goodies with a grin, a snarl, and a wagging tail. She was very cute in a black dog sorta way. She has definitely become the princess now, as she has her own car seat (better to see out the window and safer since she is buckled in), a larger crate (what happened to our "lap" dog?) and not one, but two pillows in her crate! (Princesses must be comfortable at all times) This is not to mention ther basketful of toys I have to clean up a half dozen times a day. What is she looking for when she buries her head in her basket and rummages? Yes, the little shit rummages! I can almost hear her saying, "Blue Bear, nope. Angel doll, nope. Where is my dragon? I want to play with my dragon." Next thing I know, all her toys are out and she's frolicking with her dragon.
Sheesh. What a cutie pie!
SUMMER: July 2007
It's summer for Little Lucy and she has loved going for walks down by the river, and laying on the cool floor in the house. Lucy is definitely not a hot weather dog. I had a couple people ask what words Lucy knows...here's the short list:
1) Where's your favorite toy? (she starts looking for it)
2) Go get in your bed (she does)
3) Pillow (she has a high pillow she gets on for treats)
4) Want to go on a walk? (she races around the house and sits by the door)
5) Where's your ball?
6) Go get Sunnie. (runs up to Sunnie's room looking for her)
7) What's that? (Her ears perk up and she starts barking at nothing)
8) This way (If we're taking a walk off leash and she strays, she turns back around)
9) Get the turtle girls (she runs into the turtle house)
10) Get Blue Bear (her blue bear, obviously.)
They say that dogs do best when it's a one syllable word, but I have found this isn't true with Lucy. She knows the difference between where's Blue Bear and where's you're favorite toy.
What can I say?
She's a prodigy!
Lucy loves her sister! Lin and Sunnie at graduation: June 2007
Lucy will miss her big sister when she goes to Disneyworld to work and play. Sunnie is off to make her Disney dreams come true. Lucy will have her bedroom and will be allowed to chew up all of Sunnie's things while she's gone...isn't that what little sisters do?
Spring is in the air!: May, 2008
And Lucy is busy, busy, busy. Doing what? Well, first, she patrols the turtles. Yes, it is that time of year when the girls are out of the water a lot and so Lucy herds them back into the pond. What next? Well, she must keep Lin busy by dropping her tennis ball in the pond and then standing there waiting for Lin to get up and get it (Which she does!). After that fun little game, she chews on her BIG bone, a bone given to her to keep her occupied away from her damn tennis balls. As the weather gets nicer, Lucy Lou spends more time outside chasing butterflies, snarfling ants and spiders that cross her path, and watching the goldfish. Lucy likes to watch the goldfish because when Lin feeds them, she gets a tender little fish morsel as well. Lucy LOVES goldfish food. Actually, Lucy loves anything she thinks Lin is eating. After running around outside and chasing things, she plops down on her BIG pillow and rests her tired little dog head. Every now and then, she'll sneak into Sunnie's room and steal her socks. She loves teasing her big sister. Every morning, after Lin lets Lucy out of her crate, she runs in to check on Sunnie. This means walking on her head, sniffing her, and then running away with her prized socks. Then, she waits by the door to be let out. She's a very good little dog when she isn't driving us crazy. We love that she is so communicative. When Lin tells her to "Get in your bed," she goes. When Lin says I have a treat for you, she jumps up on her BIG bed. When Lin asks her where Sunnie is, she runs upstairs looking for Sunnie. When Lin asks her if she wants to go on a walk, she lays by the door and waits for her leash to be out on. When we say "Pillow," she gets up on her BIG pillow and waits for her treat. When we ask her where her, ball, blue bear, bone, dragon, or bouncy ball are, she goes and gets THAT item. It's so weird. Cute, but weird. So, that's more than you wanted to know about Lucy's Little Life. Have a great spring and enjoy your dog!
Movies and Companionship: April 2007
Lucy is the best little companion dog ever. Lori was in Atlanta for a week and it was just me and Lucy. She's one of those pack dogs who like hanging out with you. We watch movies, she lays on the couch with me. When I'm writing, she drops the ball at my feet, when I eat, she sits on her pillow waiting to have a taste. All normal dog things right? Okay, when I start to watch the movie Eight Below about those sled dogs in the Antarctic...I swear to god, she watched the entire show. She sat on her couch (yes, she has a small round red couch) and looked up at the tv. I would try to talk to her...nothing. I threw her ball...nothing. I tried petting her...nothing. For two hours, she sat there, looking like the Sphinx, transfixed by the dogs on the screen. Twice, she growled, three times, she barked, but other than that, Lucy discovered the joys of television. Now, when I am putting a movie in, she hops on her couch and waits. Sometimes, the movie enthralls her, others, she takes a nap, but I tell you what...I've turned my dog into a tv head. How funny is that?
Violin and Obedience School: January 31, 2007
Okay...first off...we were kicked out of Obedience School. No, I didn't do it. Neither did Lucy. She didn't have the right shot (Bordatella) and so they called and said she couldn't come back until she had one. So I looked at her and thought about the lessons she's learned from the fruitcake teaching us, and decided that we didn't need damn dog school. Hmmph. Kick us out! I have a mind to let Lucy poop on their lawn!
I love this little dog to death for many reasons, but the biggest yet is that she hangs out with me even as I squeak through my violin playing. Now THAT'S a friend! I close the door so I don't bother everyone in the house, but Lucy, she just looks at me like I totally rock, and closes her eyes. I'm sure she's having an out of body experience, but nevertheless, she is right there, cheering me on. She was particular pleased when I finished Twinkle Twinkle and Mary had a Little Lamb. I think I saw her applaud when I started my first truly Celtic song called Egan's Polka. I know...POLKA? It's okay...it SOUNDS Celtic and that's all that matters. So...dog school was a bust, mostly because of the super weirdo training the class, but violin lessons are rocking my world. I figure it's a break even deal. My instructor is so awesome and can she play or what? Sigh. I want to play like that when I grow up. Okay, I never will be able to, but it's important I have something to aspire to. In the meantime...Lucy loves me and doesn't mind when I hit the occasional badnote, don't you Lucy? Lucy? Are you listening to me? LOL, maybe she's deaf and that's why she doesn't run for the hills! All that poodle hair in her ears! Anyway, there's a reason dogs are man's best friend. They adore you even when you hit that sour note!
OBEDIENCE SCHOOL PART 2: Jan. 5, 2007
Well, dog obedience school is going very well. She now runs into the house and jumps on her pillow, which is nice during these rainy days. She really enjoyed the holidays and got a lot of cool toys. Her favorite is one of those red rubber kong toys you fill with goodies. I learned in dog school to freeze it and then she will have to work harder to get her treat out. She loves it. So do I. I had the stomach flu over the break and Lucy did some of the funniest things. She would walk up to me and put her nose right up to my mouth. She wouldn't sniff like sniff, sniff, sniff. She would just stay there, like she was analyzing the sour smell of my stomach. Then, she's lay right on top of me. She knew I didn't feel good and did everything she could to make me feel better. It was sweet. Now that I am better, she does not put her nose to my face. She knew. They always do, don't they? Anyway, we start back to school on Monday. She doesn't like this boxer named Titan and wants to kick his ass. I have to remind her that she's the smallest dog there. And the best. That goes without saying.
It's our first Christmas together and she seems to think the tree water tastes better than her own water. What a nerd. She's been very good about not opening her presents or bothering the decorations. She had her own stocking, of course...one with her picture on it. Lucy seems to know that Christmas is special. I expected her to eat stuff and bother the tree, but she's been good. Well...I better scoot. We have more homework to do. I put up the Harley village...which now has a farm area. We have street lights, pigs, an ice rink, and lots more. It's one of my favorite parts of decorating. Lucy loves that as well. So...it's Christmas time with Lucy...and I'm having so much fun.
